The Returning Home Act (H.R. 2994) aims to address the housing challenges faced upon their release by those who have been incarcerated. To achieve this, the act establishes a program of reentry rental assistance and housing service grants. Community organizations will be eligible for $100 million in funding to partner with public entities and establish demonstration projects specifically for housing those who have been released from incarceration. The bill provides rental assistance, housing stabilization services, and financial stipends to families who are housing returning family members. These funds aim to alleviate barriers that prevent the formerly incarcerated from accessing suitable housing and support services.
