Affordable and accessible housing is vital for persons with disabilities to be integrated into their communities. But, some, including individuals with disabilities that receive benefits such as housing vouchers and monthly benefits under the Social Security Act, cannot get housing because of discrimination based on their source of income. The Fair Housing Improvement Act of 2023 provides solutions to this problem by aiding persons with disabilities and others obtain and maintain housing.
Some, including persons with disabilities, receive benefits including housing vouchers and monthly benefits under the Social Security Act. The Fair Housing Improvement Act will prevent housing providers from discriminating against individuals based on their source of income. Sources of income this Act would prevent discrimination based on include: rental vouchers, rental assistance, rental subsidies from nongovernmental organizations, homeowner subsidies, monthly benefits of the Social Security Act, spousal support, child support, trust payments, and any other lawful sources of income or funds.
